Priority: Community, Faith Formation and Ministry Involvement

Purpose:  Bridge the generations through welcome, leadership opportunities and parish activities.

Method:  C.R.E.W. leadership team, surveying, social activities, a website with ministry opportunities and faith resources for youth, young adult and resources for adults.

April 2012

Funds are being used to create a cohesive and sustainable Catholic community. To achieve this, OLL is pursuing technological and social initiatives. Grant funds are being administered by OLL’s newly formed organization, C.R.E.W. (Christ Renews Everyone Within).

Technology - C.R.E.W. members met with OLL Parish Council members to decide how best to spend grant monies and to avoid duplication of services. Parish Council gave C.R.E.W. a previously unused laptop complete with software. It was decided that OLL Parish would pay for internet service as an ongoing utility and will purchase a printer for use with this computer.  The parish established a technology team which established a domain name, and is developing the website and a plan for maintaining the site with the assistance of an OLL parishioner and/or salaried parish employee.  C.R.E.W. will purchase a projection system to facilitate learning in a group setting.  C.R.E.W. anticipates launching the parish website on July 1, 2012.

Social Initiatives - These include:
  • Monthly parish socials are well-attended and seem to be enjoyed.
  • St. Valentine’s Day Breakfast blended nicely with such long-standing events as the St. Joseph’s Table.
  • 100th Anniversary Festival - July 21 and 22, 2012.  Planning is well under way with permits, licenses, rental fees and deposits all in place. A ticket-sale fundraiser was initiated to help generate additional revenue for the Festival. Committees are in place for a division of work, with a small percentage of parishioners stepping forward to lead workgroups or lend a hand.
  • Family Dinner - October 21, 2012.
  • Parish Center - Summer - Early Fall 2012.  C.R.E.W. anticipates work to update the Parish Center will begin once the 100th Anniversary Festival is completed.
  • More - C.R.E.W. will also plan an adult faith development small group study, to coincide with children’s CCD classes resuming.

C.R.E.W. and OLL are appreciative of the grant award as a means of helping us to realize more fully, our potential as a Parish. While we believe we are taking steps in the right direction, there is much to be done and we must engage many more parishioners to help us achieve our goal of a cohesive and sustainable Catholic community.

Parish Vitality - is less about doing more things and more about doing the right things!
